What is a Side Cartwheel?
Why learn a Side Cartwheel?
At Gymnasticals, we teach the side-to-side cartwheel first because it’s the foundation for all other variations. With fewer complex movements than starting forward-facing, it’s the most logical and effective place to begin.
Although gymnasts will naturally have a preferred side for tumbling, we still teach cartwheels on both sides to build ambidexterity, body alignment, and better balance.
Once your child masters the side cartwheel, things tend to click into place quickly. They not only become more versatile in different types of cartwheels, but also develop a strong, technical foundation to build from.
From there, we move on to (covered in the FULL BUNDLE):
•Front-to-Back Cartwheel to Lunge
– the gateway to dynamic skills like dive cartwheels and aerials (And we know every new gymnast want to learn these!)
•Cartwheel to Feet Together (Dish/Hollow Landing)
– the preparation for round-offs and more advanced tumbling
Each step builds on the last — and we guide you through it, one cartwheel at a time.
